1 Assistance Needed on Sat Sep 18, 2010 2:47 pm

My Chat window is out of control. I am unable to change the size of my chat window and as it fills up it starts to cover the whole screen. This happens on only one character, my other character's chat window works normally.
Do I have to delete the game and reload?

Thank you for any assistance.

Try this and let me know if it works. I will keep looking for another solution.

Technical Issues
My UI is gone/off-screen or Macro Lockup issue:
The UI\Macro’s can be forced to reset by going into windows explorer and finding
\My Documents\My Games\Final Fantasy XIV\User\ or
Drive:\Users\(Computer UserName)\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV\User\
There will be numbered folders in here. Delete these folders. Or you can do a Find for Final Fantasy and the folder will appear on the list.

Thank you very much. That corrected my chat window problem.

Now I would like to ask another question.
From the beginning my game has always been very very "laggy", that is, everything is choppy and every move is very difficult to control.
This is part of my system information:

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (build 2600)
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+
Number of Processors: Logical Core Count 2 Physical Core Count 2
BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
Physical Memory 1022.418MB
Virtual Memory 2047.875MB
Page File: 2925.031MB
Storage C:\ Hard Disk Drive: Total Disk Space 149.040GB Free Disk Space 72.377GB
DirectX Version DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Graphic Device(s) NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
+Device \\.\DISPLAY1
+Chip GeForce 8500 GT
+Maker NVIDIA
+Video Memory 512.0 MB
Actually I have TWO GeForce 8500 GT working in SLI

I have ordered 3 more GB of memory but something tells me that is not going to help.

Any Suggestions?

Thank you for anything you come up with.

It's mostly your graphics card. Even the opening CG is choppy, correct? I recommend getting at least a 9600 GT or an HD 5700+ or a gtx 450 or higher. Hope that helps. Also make sure you have at least DDR2 or DDR3 ram. Also this game is not compatible with SLI mode right now, so having 2 cards would make minimal difference, if any at all.

Try the latest beta driver. It's supposed to have increased performance for nvidia cards for FFXIV.

Anything over 3.3 GB ram isn't going to help you without switching to a 64 bit OS. However RAM IS going to help ALOT. Outside of that the next thing is video card... I will agree on that. RAM however is a big issue... 1GB just doesn't cut it anymore Sad

so much for : Bill Gates "640Kb RAM is all you will ever need!"

Thank you all.

I have had to clear the /usr folder several times now. It must be unstable.
I have ordered a GeForce 9800 GT card (I cant afford the GTX 400 series at over $180.00)

I'm sure that will fix my problems. It seems that technology stands still for no man.

I will update this post when I get the new parts.

I upgraded to the 9800GT recently myself and it works like a charm. So it should definitely do the trick. =3
